8 Important Things to Understand and Remember about God's Forgiveness
Here are a few lines from Scripture in which Jesus talks about the grace of forgiveness and why it's essential: "If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done." -- Matthew GNTD. Jesus often spoke about forgiveness, forgave those who sinned against others, forgave those who sinned against him, and asked the Church to continue his healing ministry. Jesus taught, УIf you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive youФ (Mt ).

The covenant of the Old Testament required various sacrifices. But we do need to believe, accept, and confess our sinfulness, on the daily. Once Jesus forgave the women at the well, she was forever forgiven.

Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, УTake courage, son; your sins are forgiven.Ф And some of the scribes said to themselves, УThis fellow blasphemes.Ф And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, УWhy are you thinking evil in your hearts?read more. Nov 04, †Ј When Jesus responded that forgiveness should be offered four hundred and ninety times, far beyond that which Peter was proposing, it must have stunned the disciples who were listening. Although they had been with Jesus for some time, they were still thinking in the limited terms of the law, rather than in the unlimited terms of grace. Jan 02, †Ј Jesus asked forgiveness for the angry mob that had mocked Him and called for His crucifixion (Mark Ц30). It is important to note that JesusТ prayer, УFather, forgive them,Ф does not mean that everyone was forgiven, unilaterally, without repentance and faith.
Sometimes when you are wronged, it can be extremely difficult to forgive that person for what they have done, especially if they do it over and over. So how do we forgive them? How do we forgive 70 x 7 times, and what does that mean? Up to seven times? So was Jesus instructing Peter, and ultimately us to just forgive a bunch of times? By no means. There is such a deeper picture that Christ was painting for the disciples at that time. When reading this scripture and many others, you have to understand that Jesus was a first century Jew, and what that would look like for him.
They were taken from their homeland, their families were torn apart, and they were enslaved, along with many other atrocities that they endured. He was saying even in the hardest of situations, forgive. Even after their enemies had hurt them and wronged them for almost five centuries, He was teaching them to forgive.
He knew what harboring the unforgiveness would do them no good. Harboring unforgiveness or bitterness, is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. He goes on to teach them in a parable about a king that forgave a great debt for a slave, and then the slave went out and demanded a small sum from a fellow slave.
When he could not pay, he had his fellow slave thrown in jail. Christ was in the grand scheme of things showing us how the Father continually forgives us of great debts. If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also. Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Now take what Christ said in chapter 18 and tie it into this. Christ was telling them forgive even in the most difficult of situations.
The Jews were still under Roman oppression. A Roman soldier could pretty much demand anything from them, and they had to comply. A soldier could and would force a Jew to carry their pack for a mile, even on the sabbath. Technically doing that much work on the sabbath was forbidden by Jewish law. But, again, Jesus going against the grain, told them to forgive the soldier in that instance and gladly go the extra mile.
In verse 44 He instructs them to love their enemies. The enemies that he was discussing was any person who had a deep hatred for them, even to the point of wanting them dead. This would be those who held them in captivity and those who ruled over them currently. Loving your enemy is much greater when we tie it in to what else Christ said.
It is easy to love those who love you, but Jesus was teaching his disciples to go to the next level in their relationship with the Father. So I challenge you to rethink forgiveness the next time somebody wrongs you. It may be difficult, but think of how difficult it must have been for first century Jews to take this command. It was years of punishment to deal with their sin as a nation and to prepare for the coming Messiah. I can see where the way I wrote it could come across as the captivity from the book of Exodus.
I apologize for the confusion. The Lord requires us to forgive an infinite number, my perspective because we never forget. Yes I did no wrong. To forgive is not to forget. What a burden has been placed on me. This has caused 4 serious medical illnesses. Any ideas? Because at the end of the years Christ will come according to Daniel 9. The commandment to obey your parents carries a positive connotation Exodus Hello Susannah! Susannah, I apologize for the delay.

Anyway, to your question, forgiveness is a choice you have to make to release not only your mother, but yourself from the situation. If you continue to live into the same feedback loops of anger, frustration, resentment towards her, you will remain in that state producing the same results in your own life until you forgive her and release the situation.
Unforgiveness leaves you in a state of the flesh, but living into a state of forgiveness, love, joy, and gratitude allows you to live with elevated emotions that can produce a greater reality in your own life.
Now, with that said, that does not mean you have to give your mother full access to your life. If you still live at home yes, you should still honor and respect your mother fully because you are under her roof.
Jesus modeled this for us. The masses only had access to him in big gatherings. The 70 only had access to him to a point.
The 12 only had more access to him on a regular basis, but he still removed himself from them often. Then he even had 3, Peter, James, and John that had greater access to him. He even limited his mothers access to him at one point Matt You can still show honor and respect to your mother without allowing her full access to your life.
Forgiveness allows you to take control of your actions, thoughts, and words, in order to create a new feedback loop in your life to produce the highest possible good in the situation. Forgiveness is for your freedom, not your moms. I hope that helps. Totally impressed with u answering commentsЕ. Many bring up Daniel n a couple Lamech in Gen. I will have to look into that some more. Thanks for sharing.
